The White House History

Filed under: decorator design — by cameron7531 @ 5:04 pm

The White House in the United States of America is not only the official home but also a workplace for the American presidents. In 1792, the commissioners of the Federal City decided to design a permanent home for the presidents.

George Washington, the first president of the United States, was the only president who lived his presidential period out of the white house.

The white house which had been occupied by John Adams and his wife Abigail for the first time in November 1800 was built during the years between 1792 and 1800 in Washington D.C.

The architect of the white house was James Hoban who designed the house in the Georgian style and received a $500 gold medal and a plot of land as a prize from Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson was the president who ordered the building outward expansion. During the presidential period of James Polk, between the years 1845-1849, gas was piped in the white house and it was in the presidency of Benjamin Harrison that this official house felt the power of electric lighting.

The white house has been always a safe executive residence for all American presidents; but the year 1814 was the exception in the American history. On August 24, 1814 the British troops had been ordered to burn and destroy Washington D.C. and the white house. As a result whole parts of the house burnt and only exterior walls remained.

Today there are 132 rooms in the white house all of them have been the eyewitness of the formation of the United States’ history.

In this article I am going to introduce some of the white house’s room such as the “Blue Room”, “Vermeil Room”, “Red Room”, “Green Room” and the “East Room”.

The Blue Room:

This room has been located above the Diplomatic Reception Room. This room has always been used as a reception room but there is an exception during the presidency of John Adams as he used it as a south entrance hall. President Madison asked architect Benjamin Latrobe to design the Blue Room but most of the furniture burnt and destroyed in the fire of 1814.

President Monroe was a person who redecorated the room after reconstruction by the French style which has been remained until now.

The house was decorated in blue color during the presidency of Martin Van Buren in 1837, so the new decoration changed the Oval Room to the Blue Room.

The Green Room:

This room has been served different purposes as a “Lodging Room” and a green “Dining Room” for Thomas Jefferson, as a “Sitting Room” for James Madison and as a “Card Room” for Monroe.
This room was decorated in different styles by different presidents until the time of Theodore Roosevelt, when it was decorated by the 19th century American Furniture. Then Coolidge refurnished the Green Room by authentic Federal-period furniture.

The Red Room:

Red Room has been decorated by different style of furniture. Most of the United States’ presidents have used this room as “Sitting Room”; but the Red Room served as “Yellow Drawing Room “for Madison.

In 1803, Benjamin Latrobe indicated that this room is suitable to serve as “the President’s Antechamber” for the Cabinet Room or the President’s Library. Recently presidents have used this room for small dinner parties.

The Vermeil Room:

The Vermeil Room or the Gold Room has been used as a Display Room or a Ladies Sitting Room for formal occasions. The room has been decorated in green background and gold silk highlights and furnished by a table in the Empire style, the gold walls also covered by the seven First Ladies’ portraits.

The East Room:

This room has been used for different purposes such as dances, award presentations, weddings, funerals, bill-signing ceremonies, press conferences and generally for large gathering.

The East Room was designed by James Hoban as the “Public Audience Room”. The room’s wall has been covered by the portrait of George Washington, one of the few work pieces which remained after the fire of 1814, painted by Gilbert Stuart.

At the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, the East Room witnessed many activities during Civil War; Even Union Troops occupied the room for some days.

Use Egyptian Theme Decor for a Unique Guest Room

Filed under: decorator design — by cameron7531 @ 5:04 pm

Whether you know it or not, your guests view of you is very much influenced by your guest room; the room you invite them to when you have them round for coffee or supper. If that s boring they will think you are too. Not that that should bother you, because they all probably have the same old boring guest room and think exactly the same about each other.

Why not do something about it? Don t you want your room to inspire comment? Don t you want people to find your guest room interesting, with so many conversation pieces that you will never run out of something to talk about? Surely you want somebody to notice your room, rather than just enter it and take it for granted like all the other boring old rooms they enter.

It s unlikely that you have considered Egyptian theme d cor for your home, but why not give it a try. Liven it up and give them something to talk about. Forget Roman and Greek: they are either boring or a bit lascivious, but Egyptian is magical and mysterious. What with their animal gods and secret tombs, not to mention the mummies and the curses, and the pharaoh s tombs.

Get your guest room livened up. Throw some Egyptian tapestries over the floor and hang a couple on the wall. Get an Egyptian table as a centerpiece and you have started. Envisage the scene as your visitor enters your front door, and you lead them to your lounge. You throw open the door and right in front of them is a life-sized statue of the jackal headed god of the dead, Anubis.

The walls are hung with plaques displaying old hieroglyphs and portrayals of Tutankhamen with his child bride. Your sofa is upholstered in gold brocade piped with the deep blue braid of the Egyptian royal household. They sit and stare at the beautiful blue and black lapis lazuli and obsidian traditional ornaments and carvings, and the ornamental canopic jars.

They sit open-mouthed as you explain the history behind each one, and point out the blue scarab beetle topped boxes, and relate the stories behind the sacred scarabs and how they are purported to protect the dead on their journey to the afterlife. It doesn’t take much; just a few artifacts and a bit of home work, and you will be the talk of the town.

If you take time to learn just a little bit about the Egyptian people and their customs, you will be able to sound informative as you explain the ritual and mythology behind all of your pieces. This will have two uses: you will find out a lot about ancient Egypt yourself, and you will be able to impress your guests with your new found knowledge. This will make you the most popular hostess on the circuit and they won t be able to wait until your turn comes round again.

You need not get everything at once. In fact if you add to your theme slowly over a period of time, you will have fresh material to talk about every time. There are lots of Egyptian themed items that you can buy and your conversation pieces will be limitless. You can purchase genuine Egyptian antiques and reproductions. Incense burners are inexpensive, and though ancient Egyptian mirrors are unobtainable, there are many reproductions on the market at reasonable prices. After all, it is the look that matters, not the authenticity.

If you want your invitations to be the most prized in town, and your home to be the most visited, bite the bullet and take the first step towards using Egyptian theme d cor to turn your lounge into a guest room with a difference.

What to Look For When Buying Plasma TVs

Filed under: decorator design — by cameron7531 @ 5:04 pm

Plasma TVs are high-end television sets with screens generally larger than conventional TV sets. Such sets are made from a plasma display panel. There are two glass panels that consists many small cells. A mixture of two gases, Xenon and Neon are present inside the cells. These gases are turned into plasma electrically. It then excites the phosphors to produce light. They are a type of flat panel display. The screen size of a plasma set is more than 940mm or 37 inch. Plasma TVs are commonly confused with LCD TVs. LCD is another kind of large screen TV, but with different features.

There are two basic types of Plasma TVs.

- HDTV or High Definition TV

- EDTV or Enhanced Definition TV

The resolution of HDTV is 1024*768 whereas the resolution of EDTV starts from 852*480.

When buying your plasma TV, you need to keep some basic points in mind, you need to look for some basic services that this TV should provide you. If your TV fails to meet up the basic criteria, it is not worth buying a plasma Television.

All plasma TVs have some basic features. You need to do a little research before buying, so that you can compare the additional positive features and can buy the best one. The features that usual plasma TVs provide are,

- HDTV support

- Screen size

- Appearance

- Display resolution

- Connectivity

The price is another important factor that you should keep in your mind. Usually plasma TVs cost a very large amount. So sort out your plan accordingly. First make your budget. Then you need to find the brand that will give you all the facilities and some added advantages that other brands do not provide and that too within your budget. Do check whether the model is in a proper working condition or not. Beware of fake companies selling second hand refurbished TVs as a brand new model. Such models are not dependable and can fail within a short period of time.

Another important factor that you should keep in mind before buying a plasma TV is to be very specific about the resolution of your TV. Previously the resolution used to be quite low. Such lower resolution was only capable of supporting standard definition Television. Nowadays more high-resolution models are available and the standard definition television has become completely obsolete. Nowadays, a 42 inch plasma television comes with a resolution of 1024 X 768. The screen resolution of 50 inch sets varies from 1280 X 720 to 1366 X 768. It is better not to settle with any model that provides a lower resolution at almost an equal price.

The screen size of you television is immensely important. Usually a plasma TV screen ranges between 42 inches to 70 inches. A higher sized screen is also available. However, less than 42 inches has become outdated. When buying your TV, you must be aware of the screen size as well as the measurement of your room or hall where you plan to keep it. Always buy a screen that fits in your room and suits your interior decoration. Another important factor is the viewing distance. There should be enough viewing space left after placing the large screen TV. Otherwise, you won t be able to get the most out of the television set.

Providing the right space for your television is a very important factor. The place where you should keep it usually depends on the type of plasma TV you are buying. The structure of plasma TVs are sleek, so it will be better to keep them on table or wall mounted. Do not place it over or near the fireplace. The fireplace generates heat, which is harmful for the longevity and performance of your TV. For a table mount plasma TV, you need to measure the width of the screen. Make sure that you have enough space to keep it properly. Leave at least one or two inches from both sides, back and top side of your TV because the heat generated by it can harm the quality of the sound and picture. This extra space is required for the connection access and ventilation.

Paying proper heed to the features and connectivity of a plasma TV before buying is essential. A plasma TV must consist all those inputs so that it could be connected with various devices. It must contain, RGB, S-Video, Composite, HDMI, Component, etc. It will be better if you also search for a model that will provide side and front panel audiovisual inputs for hooking up a games console and even a camcorder. If so, a USB 2.0 connection and HDMI port has to be there included with the front panel.

Plasma TVs are flat screen and they provide you the option of viewing from both sides and centre. If you find it difficult to watch it beyond a 45-degree angle or you find the picture faded from that angle, then it is not worth buying that model.

The picture brightness is another good quality of such TVs which sets them apart from other TVs. Most of them are capable of regulating their brightness automatically to the level of light in the room. When buying a plasma television, opt for the one which provides a brightness ratio of 550cd/m2.

To conclude, when looking to buy a plasma screen TV, be sure to compare the market to get a good deal. The perfect plasma screen will not be too big for your room, will have an appropriate sized screen for you and your viewing habits, have the capability to connect to your other audio-visual equipment and will be a sensible price. Although plasma screen TVs are very desirable and stylish, not all models will suit all buyers so be sure to consider your options carefully.

Water Fountains – History of Water Fountains

Filed under: decorator design — by cameron7531 @ 5:04 pm

Water has always been an integral part of human life. Man would not be able to live without water and earth itself is made up of more water than land. Hence, man has always given great respect to water and even treated it as God. Most civilisations have been formed in places where there was abundance of water available for agriculture, irrigation, drinking and bathing. Many battles have been fought and conflicts arise even today over division of rivers and other water sources between states and even countries.

Water being considered so important, there is no surprise that mankind has used water in all activities of life. Beyond the essential uses like agriculture, water was used for decoration in the form of fountains. Historians point out that water fountains originated in the ancient middle east region, especially in Egypt where gardens were found to be decorated with water fountains. Fountains were also found in Roman and Persian cultures. The Mughals, who ruled India had built many architectural wonders, like Taj Mahal, and their gardens were always decorated with lush trees and fountains. Mughal women tended to stay indoors most of the day and hence these gardens and fountains were a source of relaxation and recreation for them. Fountains have always been an integral part of living in the far east countries like China, Japan etc where water is considered as a form of energy in Feng shui.

In many countries, fountains have been the center of social life. People used to gather around them, while collecting water for drinking, cooking and bathing and many a romance, friendship and political conspiracy is said to have risen from there.

Originally, nature created many fountains with the natural flow of water due to gravity, from higher surfaces to lower surfaces. The geysers, which are found in national parks and waterfalls are examples of nature created fountains. Later, with the invention of hydraulic equipments, artificial water fountains were built. In the beginning, the fountains were simple in design, used for supplying water for everyday living. Later, they were also decorated with statues, sculptures and figurines. Modern day fountains have become more advanced like musical fountains, fountains with colored lights and animated fountains and are used more like a showpiece. The Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas is a masterpiece in artificial fountains and continues to enthrall people everyday.

Today, we see water fountains being used practically everywhere from shopping complexes to hospitals. Not only do they enhance the decor of the building, but they also bring relaxation and pure joy to people.

Bathroom Design Tips

Filed under: decorator design — by cameron7531 @ 5:03 pm

During recent years, bathrooms have increased in size and this has meant new decoration techniques have been developed, times have moved on and it is now possible to have a very nicely decorated bathroom you can be proud of.

Think about it, we all spend a good bit of time washing and freshening up every day, so why not use a few bathroom decoration ideas to spice this room up a bit and make it a more appealing place to hang out. Gone are the days when a bath or shower was a rushed affair, we all want to enjoy the experience so why not do this in a pleasant surrounding.

If you add the opportunity to show off your bathroom decorating ideas a little to your neighbors then it suddenly seems more worthwhile. Everyone takes the time to make the living room and kitchen look fine, but who really bothers with the bathroom but if you do, it will show everyone what a high-quality home-maker you are.

You may want to carry over bathroom decorating ideas and styles you have used in the rest of your home. Even something as simple as a plant on a small table, which is a theme seen around the rest of the house will work well for you as a bathroom decorating idea. If you have a table with a shelf underneath, why not place a few selected magazines of books on there to really set the tone.

If your designs work well and are different to the rest of your home, then why not use them around the house in other rooms. Tiles are a prime example of this type of reverse decoration as they can be used almost anywhere and are not restricted to just a few rooms where they are traditionally found.

Fortunately many of the white tile designs in kitchens are no longer popular so colorful and traditional tiles can be used in other areas of the home including the kitchen, with equal effect. Whilst it is the tiling aspect that tends to dominate kitchens and bathrooms, there are many other bathroom decorating ideas that can be used.

Soap dishes and soap trays are becoming more fashionable and some designs are really effective. Modern periodicals which feature ideas on decoration now show just how simple it is to create your own dispensers rather than buying them.

There was even a suggestion of how to make them with clay which is not a material that would automatically spring to mind but does provide certain flexibility. Of course, another great idea is to put something relaxing opposite the bath, such as a picture of a boat floating on a quiet lake. With the materials and information available today, there is no excuse not to turn your bathroom into something very special.

Quality design does not have to cost the earth !

Filed under: decorator design — by cameron7531 @ 5:04 pm

Most of the time, we can feel stressed out after the whole day of work. Usually beds are the only way that can put out all the stress they have in the office. But sometime this stress remains, if you feel uncomfortable upon laying your back on your bed. It may add more stress if your bed smells bad and have a lot of humps.

This is really a big problem for those who live in their house all alone. So you can’t do some fixing because you feel tired after a day of work in your office.

Worry no more, because there are lots of options to be comfortable in a bed. In these modern days, beds are fully innovated and improved to give convenience and comfort. Aside from the comfort that it brings, it can give an elegant look in your room. Because modern bed is fashionable and stylish, it can adopt any decoration that you have in your room. The comfort can really make you relax and take the stress away.

Modern beds are in different designs and structure. You can have a classic and simple look using modern bed with a plain color. But if you want to be in fashion platform beds are the most recommended beds today. It is usually doesn’t have four legs but it is made of a platform and lowered. This is better than those 4 legged bed that can easily be shaken and might broke after few months of using it.

Usually old beds are made of springs and hay I guess, and if you have very active children in your house, they love using beds as trampoline so the tendency is spring might broke and the bed will be deformed. Unlike with modern beds they are made of foam mattress and comfort mattress. So the comfort of softness will surely relax your body as you lay back you body on the bed.

Platform beds are usually recommended for big rooms, they differ in sizes. If you are a big man, solo size bed would not enough for you; you can have king or queen size. This is also good for those who likely move a lot when sleeping. Another good thing using a platform bed is that you won’t get hurt just in case that you fall from sleeping because platform beds are lowered for the safety of those who experienced falling from their bed.

So, if you will be choosing bed, make sure that it will give you safety, fashion and above all comfort. All these features are packed into one and fully improved modern beds will really take away the stress and sleeping problem.
